Celebrating 100 Years of Palm Beach County
To commemorate the signing of the County Charter on April 30, 1909, and the creation of the county on July 1, 1909, Palm Beach County is holding a Centennial Celebration all year long in 2009. The county was created from Dade County, which at the time, stretched from the St. Lucie River to the tip of the Florida peninsula. Even with the creation of Broward, Martin and Okeechobee counties from Palm Beach County’s land area, it remains one of the largest counties east of the Mississippi river.
Events are being planned within the 38 municipalities of Palm Beach County, and communities are adopting the centennial theme to already established events. Several big events will be featuring the centennial theme, including Kaleidoscope and Fourth on Flagler in West Palm Beach, Artfest 2009, and several Fourth of July festivities from Lake Park to Wellington to Boca Raton.
