The Traffic Director works under the direction of the Deputy County Engineer and is responsible for directing and coordinating functions within the Traffic Division. Major responsibilities include:

Overseeing all activities related to the Traffic Division consisting of a traffic control program and traffic data collection

Directing staff in the development of a traffic control program

Reviewing traffic control device needs (signals, markings, signs)

Assuring coordination of traffic related matters with the State, County and municipalities

Making presentations to the Board of County Commissioners and other agencies

Authorizes traffic counts, speed studies and related studies

Provides technical input for transportation planning


Minimum Qualifications:   Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Traffic Engineering or related field; At least 7 years experience in all aspects of traffic engineering and supervising others.  Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain State of Florida registration within one year;  Thorough knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices; Thorough understanding of state and Federal traffic control regulations and guidelines.
