All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please call 561-966-7000 or visit the nature center to make program reservations. Fees (if applicable) are due the day of the program by cash or check only. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form for every program. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program for which you have made a reservation, your spot may be given to a person on the waiting list.

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: “THE QUEST TO SAVE THE VAQUITAS”
Friday, December 1, 1:00 p.m.
Ages 50 and older, $5/person (RSVP required)
Presentation by: Rebecca Weeks, National Marine Mammal Foundation.
The vaquita is a small porpoise that lives in the waters within Mexico’s Gulf of California. They are regarded as the world’s most endangered marine mammal, with an estimated 30 left in the wild. Join former Green Cay manager, Rebecca Weeks, coming all the way from the National Marine Mammal Foundation, in San Diego, California, as she shares of the work being done to save the vaquitas and the resulting translational research.

MIGRATION CELEBRATION
Saturday, December 2, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
All ages, FREE EVENT
This year is a big anniversary for the Friends of Green Cay Nature Center: it is their 10th year hosting Migration Celebration! This year’s theme, “Helping Birds along the Way,” celebrates the importance of migratory bird stopover sites such as Green Cay. Check out numerous exhibitors, take a guided tour of the beautiful wetland, take part in family-friendly presentations, get the kids involved in a take-home plant craft, and much more! 

BIRDS & BREAKFAST
Saturday, December 9, 9:00 a.m.
Ages 9 and older, $3/person (RSVP required, limit 10)
Start the day at Green Cay and enjoy coffee and refreshments before
embarking on a one-hour birding tour with a naturalist.

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: “WHO IS RELATED TO WHOM AT GREEN CAY?”
Friday, December 15, 1:00 p.m.
Ages 50 and older, $5/person (RSVP required)
Presentation by: Jonathan K. Waage, Retired Emeritus Professor of Biology, Brown University.
Which two of the following are most closely related: alligators, birds, iguanas? How can the closest relative to grebes in Florida be the flamingo and not ducks? Herons, egrets, bitterns and night herons are close relatives; what about wood storks? Hint: their close relatives are also black and white but live where it is cold. Explore how comparing morphology and DNA can help discover answers to which animals are each other’s closest relatives.

NIGHT STALKERS
Thursday, December 28, 6:00 p.m.
Ages 9 and older, $5/person (RSVP required, limit 20)
Join a naturalist on a night-time boardwalk tour looking at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents.

STORY & CRAFT TIME
Saturday, December 30, 10:00 a.m.
Suggested ages: 4 -10 years, $2/child (RSVP required, limit 10) 
Kids will discover nature through crafts and stories about animals and other nature-related themes!

WELLNESS PROGRAMS
TAI CHI & CHI KUNG
Four week sessions Thursdays, 2:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. (call for start dates)
$45 each for four sessions, $35 for Friends of Green Cay members, or $15 drop in fee for one session (RSVP required, limit 20)
Experience the benefits of these ancient Chinese systems of exercise and meditation. Improve your flexibility, balance, muscle tone, energy and mental well-being. 
 
GENTLE YOGA
Four week sessions Wednesdays, 2:00 p.m. (call for start dates)
$45 each for four sessions, $35 for Friends of Green Cay members, or $15 drop in fee for one session (RSVP required, limit 8)
Find peace, tranquility, mindfulness, strength, balance, and flexibility with a refreshing afternoon yoga session. Please bring your own yoga mat. Feel free to bring any props, blankets, etc.
