February 2018 Program Guide at Green Cay Nature Center

All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please call 561-966-7000 or visit the nature center to make program reservations. Fees (if applicable) are due the day of the program by cash or check only. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form for every program. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program for which you have made a reservation, your spot may be given to a person on the waiting list.

ARCHERY 101
Saturday, February 3, 10:00 a.m. 
Ages 9 and older, $10/person (RSVP required, limit 12)
Join a USA Archery Certified Instructor to learn the basics of archery and 
develop a fun new skill! All equipment provided, please wear closed-toed shoes and bring water and sun protection for the outdoor portion. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

NIGHT STALKERS
Thursday, February 8, 6:00 p.m.
Ages 9 and older, $5/person (RSVP required, limit 20)
Join a naturalist on a night-time boardwalk tour looking at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents.

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: “WINGS OVER FLORIDA”
Friday, February 9, 1:00 p.m.
Ages 50 and older, $5/person (RSVP required)
Presentation by: Alison Ashley, Green Cay Nature Center.
Behold the butterflies! Join butterfly gardener, Alison Ashley, to learn about Florida butterflies and how to attract them to a yard. This program includes a guided butterfly walk. Participants will get their own “Wings over Florida” butterfly checklist booklet with the opportunity to earn certificates for number of species seen.

BIRDS & BREAKFAST
Saturday, February 10, 9:00 a.m.
Ages 9 and older, $3/person (RSVP required, limit 10)
Start the day at Green Cay and enjoy coffee and refreshments before embarking on a one-hour birding tour with a naturalist.

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
Four week sessions, Saturdays, February 10, 17, 24, March 3, 1:00 p.m.
$60/each for four sessions, $50/Friends of Green Cay members (RSVP required, limit 20)
In this introduction to watercolor painting, learn to paint wildlife in watercolors, the materials needed, and how to use them. Beginners welcome!

*NEW PROGRAM* ANIMAL KEEPER FOR A DAY
Friday, February 16, 10:00 a.m. *No school for PBC district
Ages: 8-14 years, $10/participant (RSVP required, limit 8)
Ever wondered what it would be like to be an animal keeper? Work behind the scenes* with animal care staff and volunteers to find out! *Kids may get messy!

SCIENCE FOR SENIORS: “MAKING THE JOURNEY: A HISTORY OF BIRDS ON THE MOVE”
Friday, February 23, 1:00 p.m.
Ages 50 and older, $5/person (RSVP required)
Presentation by: Sydelle Dombrowsky, Green Cay Nature Center.
The dynamic, ever-changing planet has undoubtedly influenced the evolution of birds over time. But how and why did birds begin migrating? How are they able to navigate such long distances? Enjoy this thought-provoking program on the evolutionary history of bird migratory patterns to hopefully gain a better appreciation and understanding of these amazing, prehistoric creatures found at Green Cay.

STORY & CRAFT TIME
Saturday, February 24, 10:00 a.m.
Suggested ages: 4 -10 years, $2/child (RSVP required, limit 10)
Kids will discover nature through crafts and stories about animals and other nature-related themes! 

WELLNESS PROGRAMS
TAI CHI & CHI KUNG
Four week sessions, Thursdays, 2:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. (call for start dates)
$45/each for four sessions, $35/Friends of Green Cay members, $15/drop in fee for one session
(RSVP required, limit 20)
Experience the benefits of these ancient Chinese systems of exercise and meditation. Improve flexibility, balance, muscle tone, energy and mental well-being. 
 
GENTLE YOGA
Four week sessions, Wednesdays, 2:00 p.m. (call for start dates)
$45/each for four sessions, $35/Friends of Green Cay members, $15/drop in fee for one session 
(RSVP required, limit 8)
Find peace, tranquility, mindfulness, strength, balance, and flexibility with a refreshing afternoon yoga session. Please bring own yoga mat. Feel free to bring any props, blankets, etc.
