Parks and Recreation Director Eric Call has been selected to
receive the 2013 University of Florida College of Health and Human Performance
Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Award. This prestigious award recognizes
graduates who, “through their personal or professional activities, have made
substantial contributions toward the quality of life of others.”
Prior to joining the Parks and Recreation Department, Call
participated in college and professional baseball and taught and coached college
level athletes. Locally, Call has coached national championship caliber 18U
softball teams since 2001, and he is especially proud to have been able to help
more than one hundred young women secure softball scholarships to Division 1
universities.
Call joined the Parks and Recreation Department in 1984 and
quickly assumed leadership positions until he became Director in 2010.
“Eric’s willingness to embrace change, try innovative
programs, and work in collaboration with other government entities and the
communities he serves, has helped build a foundation for the County’s parks and
recreation facilities that are recognized world-wide,” wrote PBSO Chief Deputy
Michael Gauger who was among those who supported Call for the Alumni Hall of
Fame Award.
Palm Beach County’s Parks and Recreation Department “is
respected as a model government entity because of the team Eric Call has
assembled and his leadership,” added Florida Park Service Director Donald
Forgione.
Call will be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at an Awards
Ceremony in April.
