Sunscreen Dispenser Unveiled at Okeeheelee Golf Course

Body

On Thursday, May 5, County Commissioner Paulette Burdick, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, and the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation gathered at Palm Beach County’s Okeeheelee Golf Course for an unveiling ceremony to launch the first location of a public sunscreen dispenser in a county park.

According to the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. With the summer months approaching, it is important to take action to stay safe in the sun. Visitors to the Okeeheelee Golf Course will now have access to sun protection by way of this sunscreen dispenser, free of charge.

“While we push hard for people to get outdoors and be active, we want them to be sun safe as well,” said Eric Call, Director of the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department.

This partnership between the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation helps promote sun safety and provide protection against the potentially deadly effects of overexposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Okeeheelee Golf Course is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 7715 Forest Hill Boulevard, west of West Palm Beach.

The department operates more than 80 regional, district, community, beach, and neighborhood parks, spanning several thousand acres. Their mission is to make the quality of life for Palm Beach County residents and visitors better by providing diverse, safe and affordable recreation services, welcoming parks, and enriching social and cultural experiences. This is achieved by promoting wellness, fostering environmental stewardship, contributing economic value, and by improving our community every day for this and future generations.
