January 2019 Program Guide at Daggerwing Nature Center

All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated.  Please call (561) 629-8760 or visit the nature center to make program reservations.  Fees (if applicable) are due the day of the program by cash or check only.  All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form for every program.  If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program for which you have made a reservation, your spot may be given to a person on the waiting list. 

ANIMAL FEEDINGS
Daily, 3:15-3:30 p.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)
3:15 p.m. is feeding time! Listen to a short talk about one of Daggerwing’s resident animals and then watch while it’s fed. Wednesday - Opossum; Thursday - Snake; Friday - Owl; Saturday - Alligator

ANIMAL KEEPER FOR A DAY
Thursday, January 3, 10:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Animal keepers have the coolest job! Work behind the scenes with animal care staff and volunteers to feed diets, clean exhibits, and provide enrichments to the animals at the nature center. Learn what it takes to care for these special animal ambassadors.

DIP NETTING
Friday, January 4, 10:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Find out what creatures naturally live in the water of our wetlands! Collect tiny pond animals outside and then observe those findings using magnifying glasses and microscopes inside. *Wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet/dirty.

RADICAL REPTILES
Saturday, January 12, 10:30 a.m.
Ages 5+, $3/participant (Reservations required)
Join a naturalist for a family friendly program focusing on the amazing world of reptiles! Learn about these diverse scaly creatures and meet some resident reptiles up close and personal.

MOTHER NATURE & ME: START YOUR GARDEN
Tuesday, January 15, 10:30 a.m.
Ages 2-5 (w/guardian), $4/child (Reservations required)
Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!

DAGGERWING VISITS THE LIBRARY: BUTTERFLIES
Tuesday, January 15, 2:00 p.m.
Ages 8+, FREE (Reservations required)
Enjoy a special program about amphibians featuring a visit from some of the nature center’s resident animal ambassadors, at the West Boca Branch Library! Call the West Boca Branch Library for details and RSVP at (561) 470-1600.

NIGHT HIKE
Friday, January 18, 6:00 p.m.
Ages 5+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Always wondered what Daggerwing’s boardwalk would be like after dark? Join a naturalist on a nighttime boardwalk tour looking at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents.

WELLNESS PROGRAMS
TAI CHI
Four week sessions, Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m. (call for start dates)
$60/each for four sessions, $50/Friends of Daggerwing members, $20/drop in fee for one session 
(RSVP required, limit 15)
Experience the benefits of this ancient Chinese system of exercise and meditation. Improve flexibility, balance, muscle tone, energy and mental well-being.
