March 2019 Program Guide at Riverbend Park

All programs are by reservation only. Please call (561) 741-1359 to make program reservations. Payment (cash or check) is due the day of program. Programs require a minimum number registered participants. For every program, participants/guardians are required to sign a Program Participation Form. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please register in advance by 2:00 p.m. the day before. All programs run approximately 90 minutes depending upon experience level of participants. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellant to each program. 

NATURALIST WALKS
Saturdays, 8:00 a.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations required)
Join a naturalist for a guided walk exploring the trails of Riverbend Park. It’s a great way to become familiar with the plant and animal communities, trails and historic events of the park. 

NIGHT HIKE
Friday, March 8, 6:30 p.m.
All ages, $5/person (Reservations required)
Join a naturalist on a walk in the park and observe the change from diurnal to nocturnal in the park. Good walking shoes and bug spray are recommended.

SAWMILL SATURDAY
Saturday, March 16, 9:00 a.m. 
All ages, FREE (No reservations required)    
Stop by the sawmill on the park’s recreated farmstead and visit with the sawyers as they cut and plane logs into boards. Experience “turn of the century” cutting edge technology.                                      .

REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS
Saturday, March 16, 9:30 a.m.
All ages, $5/person (Reservations required)
This program will take participants through the differences between reptiles and amphibians and discuss their similarities and differences. Local species will be discussed as well as venomous and non-venomous. Please wear close-toed shoes.

GUIDED PEDAL 
Wednesday, March 20 & Saturday, March 23, 9:30 a.m.
All ages, $5/person (Reservations required)
Discover the trails of Riverbend with a naturalist guiding the way. This tour is a leisurely pedal of the trails. Enjoy looking for wildlife and stopping occasionally at points of interest.

FULL MOON BIKE RIDE
Friday, March 22, 6:30 p.m.
All ages, $10/person (Reservations required)
Join a naturalist on a nighttime bike ride. See the park after hours and look at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents. Appropriate safety gear and flashlight are required.

HISTORY IN THE PARK
Saturday, March 23, 10:00 a.m.
All ages, FREE (No reservations required)
Join non-profit group the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists for a presentation by guest speaker Mike Heitman on Seminole Stories and demonstration. Docents will conduct a walking tour of the battlefield at Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park (adjacent to Riverbend Park) following the presentation. 

ARCHERY
Saturday, March 23, 11:30 a.m. 
Ages 8 and up, $10/person (Reservations required)
Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to learn about archery! This exciting program teaches archery safety and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

GUIDED PADDLE
Saturday, March 30, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8 and up, $10/person (Reservations required)
Take a guided tour of Riverbend’s waterways with a naturalist who will point out many of the native plants and animals that can be found in the park as well as some of the amazing park history.
