Park Ridge Golf Course and Southwinds Golf Course ranked among
the top three in the nation in the Audubon International BioBlitz 2016 campaign
held in April.
Park Ridge finished second among all golf courses in
number of participants in the BioBlitz campaign as it had 121 people take part.
The group identified 130 unique species of flora and fauna that call the
facility home.
After finishing first in the nation in participants in 2015
with 49 participants, Southwinds was just behind Park Ridge this year as it was
third with 110 contributors. The Southwinds group identified 152 species of
plants and animals around the course.
Audubon International’s BioBlitz
2016 campaign was designed to challenge golf courses to engage with their
surrounding communities and local wildlife experts to identify species of plants
and animals on the course grounds. The program’s goal is to educate the public
on how much work is involved for golf course staff to practice
environmental-friendly practices in maintaining a golf facility.
