December 2020 Program Guide at Okeeheelee Nature Center

All programs are by reservation only.  Fee programs require payment at the time of registration/reservation. You can register and pay online at www.pbcparks.com​. Please select “Online Services”, choose “Register/Pay for Program” from the drop-down menu, click the “Nature” icon, and then search for the program by name. You must login or create a new household account before registering. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form and COVID-19 Waiver before each program. Programs will adhere to all state, county orders and CDC guidelines.

NATURE MEDITATION
Tuesday, December 1, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 12+, FREE (Reservations required)
Join a nature center naturalist in a guided outdoor meditation experience. The goal is to facilitate an aware and peaceful mental state while imparting a deeper appreciation of the natural world. We will practice both walking and sitting meditation. Beginners are welcome!

OKEEHEELEE AFTER HOURS
Friday, December 11, 5:00 p.m.
Ages 15+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Naturalists will lead the group on a sunset hike to search for diurnal birds going to roost, and crepuscular and nocturnal animals just beginning their activities. As the day turns to night, participants will look and listen for bats, owls, flying squirrels, spiders and more. This session is for older teens and adults only to allow for slow and quiet exploration. Please bring binoculars if you have them.

NATURE JOURNALING
Tuesday, December 15, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $3/participant (Reservations required)
Join a nature center naturalist in a guided art and writing experience to heighten your awareness and appreciation of nature. The goal of nature journaling and sketching is to answer the question, “What is going on outside today?” With a few basic skills and an inquisitive attitude, participants will be able to answer this question with words and art.

GUIDED NATURE WALK
Saturday, December 26, 10:30 a.m.
Families/all ages, FREE (Reservations required)
Join a nature center naturalist for a guided nature walk through our pine flatwoods forest and learn about the animals and plants that live in this habitat. Please bring binoculars if you have them.

ONC BEHIND THE SCENES
Tuesday, December 29, 10:30 a.m.
Families/all ages, $3/participant (Reservations required)
Take a behind the scenes tour to see where our outdoor animals live when they are not “working”. You will get to feed our white-tailed deer and meet several other animals up close while learning all about them! 

ARCHERY FOR BEGINNERS
Wednesday, December 30, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Learn the basics of archery from safety to shooting and develop a great new skill. All equipment is provided. Space is limited.
