The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation (PBC Parks) was selected by Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) as the winner of the 2021 American Health+Wellness Design Awards for Okeeheelee Nature Center (ONC) Interpretive Signage, which was designed entirely in-house by Graphic Designer, Kimberly Krieger, who worked closely with nature center staff.

The ONC Interpretive Signage project was an initiative to replace six outdated and unattractive educational signs along the nature center trail at Okeeheelee Nature Center in West Palm Beach. The entire project, from initiation through coordination and installation, spanned from 2020 to early 2021. The signs highlight native South Florida flora, fauna, and ecosystems, while imparting key environmental concepts. The new signs are fresh, colorful, and vibrant, and help promote stewardship of natural sites and foster environmental stewards while improving the overall image of the nature center.

For five decades, GDUSA has presented competitions that focus on areas of growth and opportunity for graphic design. The 2021 awards focus on health and wellness. This competition takes in the big picture of healthcare: traditional medical industries; mental health and counseling; healthy lifestyles; and public health and community education initiatives.
