February 2022 Program Guide at Riverbend Park

All programs are by online reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please register online at www.pbcparks.com; under “Online Services” click on Register/Pay for Program, or visit the office to register and make payment. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form and COVID-19 Waiver before each program. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All programs run approximately 90 minutes depending upon experience level of participants. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent to each program. For questions or more information, please contact Riverbend Park at 561-741-1359.

NATURALIST WALKS
Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. 
All ages, FREE (Reservations required)
Join naturalists each week for a guided walk exploring the trails of Riverbend Park. It’s a great way to become familiar with the plant and animal communities, trails and historic events of the park. 

BATTLEFIELD TOURS
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations required)
Join a Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationist docent on a battlefield tour and learn of the Second Seminole War battles that occurred here.

BIRDING BASICS
Saturday, February 5, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $5/person (Reservations required)
Come join us for a guided birding walk in the park as we learn about the amazing adaptations of birds and the many roles they play in the environment. Participants will be provided with bird guidebooks and binoculars as we go over how to use them to your greatest advantage. All equipment will be issued to each participant prior to the walk. 

FULL MOON BIKE RIDE
Friday, February 11, 6:30 p.m.
Ages 8+, $10/person (Reservations required) 
Join a naturalist on a moonlit, nighttime bike ride. See the park after hours and look at nature from the point of view of its nocturnal residents. Appropriate safety gear and water is required. Bring your own bike or rent from the park vendor, Jupiter Outdoor Center, 561-747-0063. 

ARCHERY 101
Saturday, February 12, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/person (Reservations required)
Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to learn about archery! This exciting program teaches archery safety and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

HISTORY IN THE PARK
Saturday, February 12, 10:00 a.m. 
All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)
Join our non-profit group the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists for a presentation by a guest speaker. Docents will conduct a walking tour of the battlefield following the presentation.

ARCHERY OPEN RANGE
Saturday, February 12, 12:00 p.m.
Ages 8+, $10/person (Reservations required - call 561-741-1359 to register)
Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to hone your archery skills! This program is offered to archers who have attended 2 basic archery courses at Riverbend Park. Archers will shoot at different targets and different distances. Basic safety review will be conducted before heading to the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS
Saturday, February 19, 9:30 a.m.
All ages, $5/person (Reservations required)     
This program will take you through the differences between reptiles and amphibians and discuss their similarities. Local and invasive species will be discussed as well as venomous and nonvenomous. Please wear closed-toe shoes.

SURVIVAL SCHOOL/PREP BEFORE YOU GO
Saturday, February 26, 10:00 a.m.
Ages 10+, $5/person (Reservations required)
In this lesson, students will understand that preparation is your first, and best, line of defense incase of an outdoor emergency. A properly prepared backpack, first aid, shelter, and gear can save your life but it will also make your outdoor experience much better! Instructors will go over how to map out an area before starting your trek, essentials for your pack, proper attire for your journey, first aid kit contents, portable shelters, packing food/water, and practicing using your equipment at home. Please wear closed-toe shoes.
