On Saturday, September 24, Palm Beach County officials celebrated the opening of phase I of Canyon District Park, located at 8788 Senator Joe Abruzzo Avenue, west of Boynton Beach.
Phase I of this project commenced in 2018 as a demonstration of the county’s commitment to health, happiness, community and service to residents. Today, the park boasts three lighted multipurpose fields, a restroom/concession building, a maintenance facility, group picnic shelters, a one-mile paved fitness trail with 13 exercise stations, parking for 251 vehicles and other necessary infrastructure.
The $11 million cost of phase I of the park is funded through a combination of Impact Fees and Infrastructure Sales Tax proceeds. Phase II is expected to move forward by the spring of 2023 and be completed by early 2024. Plans for the second phase of the project include baseball/softball fields with batting cages, concession building, destination playground, picnic pavilion, parking, restrooms and associated facilities.
Phase II design is expected to commence in late-October 2022 and will likely include four lighted baseball/softball fields, a destination playground, a second restroom/concession building, picnic areas, and additional parking spaces and associated facilities.
Canyon District Park is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department. The park is open every day from sunrise to sunset. Lighted, permitted athletic fields open until 10:00 pm.
