Nature Adventure Journal Recognized Nationally

Body

The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department's Nature Adventure Journal was recently recognized as a winner in the 2022 American Graphic Design Awards in the Designing for Good category featuring the best designs of 2021 and 2022 — in print, packaging, p-o-p, internet, interactive, video and more. The Designing for Good category highlights graphic communications that advance positive social and environmental action and social justice impact; promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and aim to make communities and the world a better place for people and nature.

The Nature Adventure Journal was also selected as the winner of Graphic Design USA's (GDUSA) Health + Wellness Award in September. The competition honors graphic design excellence representing leading institutions, creative agencies and design departments with pieces that promote traditional medicine to healthy lifestyles and public health initiatives. In August, the journal was also awarded the Florida Recreation and Park Association Public Relations Award for significantly impacting the public's awareness and recognition of public parks, recreation and leisure services programs through marketing and public relations.

The journal helps to develop future stewards of natural resources by helping people of all ages explore the world around them. Created during a time when in-person recreation programming was still limited due to concerns of COVID, the Nature Adventure Journal encourages people to stay active and outdoors in a natural setting through a variety of fun self-directed activities like animal spotting, leaf tracing and making an outdoor bucket list while earning badges as they complete different sections.

PBC Parks also received an award in the Designing for Good category for the A4AFL-PBC annual report. The annual report's vivid design incorporates participants' creativity and testimonials while highlighting accomplishments and achievements with colorful graphics and layouts.

Both publications were designed in house by PBC Parks' Office of Public Engagement and reflects the department's dedication to promote awareness of the benefits of parks and nature and provide healthy, happy living to residents and visitors through a diverse, inclusive and equitable lens.
