May 2023 Program Guide at Riverbend Park

All programs are by online reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please register online at www.pbcparks.com​; under “Online Services” click on Register/Pay for Program, or visit the office to register and make payment. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form before each program. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All programs run approximately 90 minutes depending upon experience level of participants. Please bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent to each program. For questions or more information, please contact Riverbend Park at 561-741-1359. Activities promote environmental awareness, conservation, and recreation.

NATURALIST WALKS
Fridays, 9:00 a.m. 
All ages, FREE (Reservations required)
Join naturalists each week for a 1-hour guided walk exploring the trails of Riverbend Park. It’s a great way to become familiar with the plant and animal communities, trails, and historic events of the park. Call 561-741-1359 to reserve a spot.

BATTLEFIELD TOURS
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)
Join a Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationist docent on a battlefield tour and learn of the Second Seminole War battles that occurred here.

NIGHT HIKE
Thursday, May 4, 7:30 p.m.
Ages 8+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Join a naturalist on a walk and observe the change from diurnal to nocturnal in the park. Good walking shoes, water, a flashlight, and bug spray are recommended.

BUTTERFLIES & POLLINATORS 
Saturday, May 6, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 5+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Explore the topic of butterflies and the importance of plant type to their lifecycle through the use of biofacts and a walk through the butterfly garden and nearby natural areas. Basic knowledge for butterfly gardening will also be shared. 

BIRDING BASICS – PURPLE MARTINS
Saturday, May 13, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 5+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Come join us for a guided birding walk in the park as we learn about the special migratory lifestyle of the Purple Martins! Participants will take part in a nest check to see how Riverbend staff monitor the Purple Martin nesting season.

PHOTO FUNDAMENTALS
Monday, May 15, 8:30 a.m.
Ages 10+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Learn essential camera functions and composition basics in nature/wildlife photography! Join staff for a morning hike around Riverbend Park to put your new knowledge into practice. Bring your own camera, along with a battery and a storage card. Tripods/monopods are recommended but not required. Dress for hiking, bring water.

ARCHERY 101
Saturday, May 20, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Join USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff to learn about archery! This exciting program teaches archery safety and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.

FISHING FUN 
Wednesday, May 31, 9:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Learn basic fishing techniques and safety while fishing for the big one! Proper outdoor clothing, water, sunblock and sunglasses are recommended. Fishing gear is provided.
