Friends of Daggerwing Nature Center, Inc. (FOD) has awarded the annual Scott Cowan Memorial Scholarship for 2023 to volunteer Ekin Esmer. Ekin graduated from Spanish River High School this year with an AICE diploma with Distinctions and a GPA of 5.06. She will attend the University of Florida this fall, majoring in Biology. Ekin is an avid anti-plastic pollution advocate and hopes to find solutions to this daunting problem through biotechnological research in her future studies and work.

“We are exceedingly happy to present this year’s scholarship award to Ekin, and grateful for the generosity of our visitors and donors for making it possible for us to make this award for the sixth consecutive year. Our volunteers are an essential part of our effort to provide an exceptional experience for every Daggerwing Nature Center visitor,” said Edith Cowan, Scholarship committee chair and mother of Scott Cowan, for whom the scholarship is named.
