March 2024 Program Guide for Okeeheelee Nature Center

All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please register online at www.pbcparks.com; under “Online Services” click on Register/Pay for Program, or visit the nature center to register and make payment. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form before each program. Activities promote environmental awareness, conservation, recreation, and educate on health and wellness in the community.

LIVE ANIMAL FEEDING PRESENTATIONS
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 3:30 p.m. 
Families/all ages, FREE (No reservations required)

ALLIGATOR FEEDING
Saturdays, 1:00 p.m. 
Families/all ages, FREE (No reservations required)

HAWK WALK & TALK
Saturday, March 9, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Families/all ages, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Join an ONC Naturalist and our ambassador Red-shouldered Hawk on a guided nature walk. While providing enrichment to our hawk, we will walk through the pine flatwood forest and learn about the other wildlife we might encounter in this habitat. Please bring binoculars, otherwise loaners will be available.

SUPERSTARS OF THE NIGHT
Tuesday, March 12, 7:30-9:00 p.m. 
Ages 8+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Naturalists will lead the group on a night hike to search for the superstars of the night– nocturnal animals. Then, participants will get a chance to explore the night sky with telescopes. Rain or shine, get excited to learn with our special guests from the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches.

ARCHERY FOR BEGINNERS
Wednesday, March 20, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Join USA Archery certified instructors and learn the basics of archery, from safety to shooting, and develop a great new skill! All equipment is provided. Space is limited, so sign up before it fills up!

ADVANCED ARCHERY*
Friday, March 22, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
*Prerequisite: Must have completed Archery for Beginners
This program is for those already familiar with the basics of archery. Develop your archery skills further, as USA Archery certified instructors teach advanced techniques and practice aim and precision. All equipment is provided. Space is limited, so sign up before it fills up!

GOPHER TORTOISE GALLOP 5K
Saturday, March 23, 7:30 a.m. (Gates open at 6:15 a.m. Race begins at 7:30 a.m.)
Families/all ages, Prices vary based on day of registration (Reservations required)
The Friends of Okeeheelee Nature Center is proud to host their inaugural Gopher Tortoise Gallop 5K and cordially invite you to join in the fun. All proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the ambassador animals, exhibits and programs at ONC and are tax deductible. ONC VISITS THE LIBRARY: KEYSTONE SPECIES
Tuesday, March 26, 3:00-3:45 p.m.
Ages 5-12, FREE (Pre-registration required**)
Join ONC Naturalists at the Main Library as we learn about the importance of keystone species and how they benefit other native animals in their communities. Two keystone species will be featured, the American Alligator and Gopher Tortoise, in addition to one of the commensal species they benefit. **Call the Main Library at 561-233-2600 or visit www.pbclibrary.org for more details.
