On Saturday, February 4th, 2017, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and Department of Environmental Resources Management will “celebrate the night and turn down the lights” by hosting the fifth annual Dark Sky Festival at Okeeheelee Nature Center from 5:00-10:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The purpose of the Dark Sky Festival is to expose citizens to the marvels of astronomy and the importance of protecting dark skies, not just for astronomical purposes, but also for the effects on human health, and the values that darkness provides to area wildlife.  This festival will include stargazing with local astronomers, night-time photography classes, lectures, exhibits, vendors, nature walks, a children’s activity area, food trucks, a campfire and more. The event is family friendly and enjoyable for all ages.

Additional support for this event is provided by the South Florida Chapter of the International Dark-Sky Association. For more information about the event or to register for a photography class, please contact Okeeheelee Nature Center at 561-233-1400.

Okeeheelee Nature Center is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located in Okeeheelee Park at 7715 Forest Hill Boulevard, west of West Palm Beach.
