First Annual Battle of the Loxahatchee  at Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park

​What: Watch history unfold as this event focuses on the two engagements that occurred during the 2nd Seminole War in the park in January of 1838, with the main battle re-enactment focusing on the larger engagement that occurred on January 24, 1838. Dressed re-enactors will revive the battle that occurred between the U.S. and the Seminoles. The Loxahatchee Battlefield preservationists will take to the field during the re-enactment and also guide battlefield tours throughout the day. The re-enactment itself will start at 2:00 p.m. with opening remarks followed by the battle. Also on-site will be exhibitors, weapons demonstrations, speakers of period history and archaeology, and food trucks.

Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 9060 Indiantown Road, Jupiter. Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park is one of the most significant multi-level historic sites in Palm Beach County. Gateway to the Loxahatchee River, prehistoric and historic habitation has occurred along the Loxahatchee dating as far back as the Archaic Period over 5,000 years ago. The primary goal of the park is to preserve and protect these cultural resources, while providing education and passive recreation opportunities for the public to experience this beautiful place and its history.
