March 2017 Program Guide at Daggerwing Nature Center

All programs are by reservation only, unless otherwise stated. Please call (561) 629-8760 or visit the nature center to make program reservations. Fees (if applicable) are due the day of the program by cash or check only. All participants are required to sign a Program Participation Form for every program. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a program for which you have made a reservation, your spot may be given to a person on the waiting list. 

ANIMAL FEEDINGS
Daily, 3:15-3:30 p.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)
3:15 p.m. is feeding time! Listen to a short talk about one of Daggerwing’s resident animals and then watch while it’s fed. Wednesday - Alligator; Thursday - Snake; Friday - Owl; Saturday - Alligator

MOTHER NATURE & ME: SUPER SNAKES
Tuesday, March 7, 10:30 a.m.
Ages 2-5 (w/ guardian), $4/child (Reservations required)
Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!

ARCHAEOLOGY DAY: PREHISTORY OF SOUTH FLORIDA
Saturday, March 11, 10:30 a.m.
All ages (w/ guardian), FREE (Reservations not required)
Florida Public Archaeology Network tells the story of the people living in South Florida from hundreds of years ago. Learn the clues about these people and more from artifacts, bones, and family-friendly activities and games.

DAGGERWING VISITS THE LIBRARY: FROGS & TOADS
Tuesday, March 14, 3:30 p.m.
Ages 5+, FREE (Reservations required)
Enjoy a special program about amphibians featuring resident animal ambassadors from the Nature Center, at the West Boca Branch Library! Call the West Boca Branch Library for details and to RSVP at (561) 470-1600.

MOTHER NATURE & ME: CATS IN HATS

ARCHAEOLOGY DAY: ARCHAEOLOGY OF TREE ISLANDS, THE LOXAHATCHEE AND CRM

Learn about the local history of South Florida and Cultural Resource Management through a presentation by Rodrigo Cardenas from the Palm Beach County Archaeological Society.

GEOCACHING BY BIKE
Wednesday, March 22, 10:00 a.m. (No School Day)
Ages 8+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Integrate modern technology with the exploration of nature!  This BYOB* activity provides a chance for families to get outside and ride together while participating in the world-wide scavenger hunt called geocaching.  Learn how to use a GPS hand held unit or bring your own smart phone with the free Geocaching Intro app installed.  *Bring Your Own Bike

INTRO TO ARCHERY 
Thursday, March 23, 10:00 a.m. (No School Day)
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Join our USA Archery and N.F.A.A. certified staff and learn about archery.  This exciting program teaches archery safety and how to properly use the equipment before getting to practice on the range.

FISHING FUN
Friday, March 24, 10:00 a.m. (No School Day)
Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
Learn the basics of freshwater fishing and practice learned skills. Class includes: fishing pole basics, casting tips, and freshwater fish identification. All fishing supplies are provided. Please bring a water bottle, sun protection, and closed-toed shoes (or water shoes) that can get wet/muddy.

NIGHT HIKE
Friday, March 31, 7:00 p.m.
Ages 5+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
Always wondered what Daggerwing’s boardwalk would be like after dark? Find out in this naturalist-guided boardwalk tour at night* while looking for the shining eyes of nocturnal wildlife and listening for the calls of animals that use the darkness to their advantage. *Be sure to bring closed toe shoes, bug spray and a flashlight.
