Free to Grow is an alcohol, tobacco and other drugs prevention initiative (ATOD) operated by Palm Beach County Head Start/Early Head Start and serves the southwest area of Delray Beach, Florida. Palm Beach County is one of 18 communities across the country selected for this program. Free to Grow seeks to demonstrate that by improving the young child's environment, in both family and community, the child will be less vulnerable to substance abuse problems in later years. Funding is provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, with matching funds from the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County and the Quantum Foundation. Program support is provided by the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. For more information, contact Dr. Carmen A. Nicholas, Director, Palm Beach County Head Start and Children's Services, at (561) 233-1611. |
