Volunteer Events

FIRST VOLUNTEER EVENT  (ENCORE PRESENTATION!)
What: Trash removal  
Where: Jupiter Ridge Natural Area – Jupiter
When: Saturday, June 27, 2009
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Donald Ross Road – head east on Donald Ross Road to U.S. Highway 1 – turn left and head north on U.S. Highway 1 for roughly 2.5 miles – the entrance to the natural area is located on the west side of U.S. Highway 1 (just north of the Bluffs development).

There was so much trash to remove during the June 13 cleanup event at this natural area that a second project is needed! Volunteers should be prepared to get wet and muddy as part of the cleanup will occur among the mangroves lining the Intracoastal Waterway. Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes (no sandals allowed – either sneakers or hiking boots) that they don’t mind getting dirty.  Restroom facilities are available on site (port-a-lets). The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 20 volunteers who register.

 SECOND VOLUNTEER EVENT
What: Planting native trees, Removing trash
Where: Delaware Scrub Natural Area - Jupiter
When: Saturday, July 11, 2009
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Indiantown Road – head east on Indiantown Road to Delaware Blvd.  – turn left and head north on Delaware Blvd. to Seneca Street – turn right on Seneca Street - look for the white County trucks to locate the parking area

Volunteers should wear long pants, t-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are not available at the natural area. Restrooms are available at various stores located along Indiantown Road. We will be working in wet and muddy conditions so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes. The Department will supply all tools, gloves, and refreshments. Volunteers will be working in open areas so be prepared for the sun and heat. Event participation is limited to the first 20 volunteers who register.

THIRD  VOLUNTEER EVENT
What: Trash removal, Invasive plant removal  
Where: Acreage Pines Natural Area – Loxahatchee
When: Saturday, July 18, 2009
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Okeechobee Blvd. – head west on Okeechobee Blvd. to Royal Palm Beach Blvd. – turn right on Royal Palm Beach Blvd. and head north to Orange Blvd. – turn left on Orange Blvd. and head west for approximately 2 ½ miles to 140th Ave. N.  – turn left and head south on 140th Ave. N. to Acreage Community Park (6701 140th Ave. N.) – head over to the ball fields and look for white County trucks to find the designated meeting area

Volunteers should be prepared to get dirty as we will be working in brush-filled areas. Volunteers should wear old clothes (long pants, t-shirt) and shoes (either sneakers or hiking boots) that they don’t mind getting dirty.  Restroom facilities are available at the community park. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 20 volunteers who register.

FOURTH  VOLUNTEER EVENT  (WEEKDAY)
What: Planting native trees, Trash removal (among the mangroves lining the Loxahatchee River)
Where: Jackson Riverfront Pines Natural Area – Tequesta
When: Thursday, July 30, 2009
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (NOTE: LATER START TIME)
Directions: From I-95 exit at Indiantown Rd.  – head east on Indiantown Rd. to Old Dixie Hwy (Alt. A1A) – turn left and head north on Old Dixie Hwy. to Riverside Drive – turn left and head west on Riverside Drive for approximately 2 ½  miles – look for white County trucks (just past Windswept Pines Ct.) to find the designated parking area  

Volunteers should be prepared to get wet and dirty as a portion of the project will involve removing trash from the mangroves lining the Loxahatchee River. Volunteers should wear old clothes (long pants, t-shirt) and shoes (either sneakers or hiking boots – no sandals or flip-flops) that they don’t mind getting dirty.  Restroom facilities are not available at this natural area. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 15 volunteers who register.
