his section is responsible for over two hundred and twenty eight
(228) fire/intrusion alarm systems comprised of over seventeen
thousand (17,413) electronic sensing devices. These systems are
referred to as life safety systems since their intent is to protect
the employees, the public that use these facilities and to protect the
County’s capital dollar investment. The fire alarm systems are
required to be maintained in accordance the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) and are inspected frequently by the Fire Marshals
having jurisdiction with no exceptions or problems noted. In addition,
this group is responsible for systems in Palm Beach County’s three
(3) detention facilities. These systems are computer processor
controlled allowing integration of prisoner cell locking mechanisms,
panic alarms, cameras, monitors, motion sensors, intercoms and card
readers.
