Training and Safety Division Chief Vicki Sheppard
Division Chief Vicki Sheppard
Under the leadership of Division Chief Vicki Sheppard, the Training & Safety Division is responsible for meeting the growing needs of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue emergency response personnel. As a metro fire rescue department, the Training & Safety Division is an active participant in the National Fire Academy's TRADE program.

The Training & Safety Division is responsible for the initial training and continuing education for the existing 1200 certified Firefighters, 200 support personnel, and the 100 new Firefighter recruits hired each year. Nine Staff Captains lead training in the following areas:

Company Officer Training
Driver Operator Training
Firefighter Training
EMT/Paramedic Training

Special Operations Training
Recruit Training
Communicator, Inspector, Investigator Training

The Training & Safety Division utilizes state-of-the-art technology to deliver consistent, repeatable training through the department's intranet site. A Website Specialist dedicated to the Training & Safety Division helps develop and post streaming videos, Quick Skills, on-line segments, and simulations for personnel to utilize in their required training regiment.

Three personnel assigned to the Video Production Department who support the Training & Safety Division by producing training videos distributed over County Cable Channel 20. The Video Production Department provides video and still photography for scheduled seminars, conferences, promotions, and graduations. Monthly produced television shows include:

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is in the process of building a new Administrative/ Training Complex. The 40 acre complex will proudly be named the Chief Herman W. Brice Fire Rescue Complex. The training complex will include:

  • Classrooms,
  • Six story training tower,
  • Two story Class A burn building,
  • Extrication area,
  • LP Fire props, and
  • Driving Course.
