Many aspects of transportation planning are impacted by land development regulations, codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plan elements. From the detailed, such as site plan design--Where is the transit stop? Do they provide a bicycle rack?--to the abstract, such as the goals in a municipality's transportation element, these rules and guidelines are an important part of the transportation planning process.
