Commissioner Santamaria Attends Benefit to End Homelessness
January 15, 2008 Commissioner Jess Santamaria attended the “Fill Our Bowls Benefit” organized by The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County. About 150 people attended the event on January 14 at Café Protégé, located on the campus of the Florida Culinary Institute in West Palm Beach. Commissioner Jeff Koons and Commissioner Shelley Vana served as celebrity chefs at the event while Comissioner Greene served the food to guests. Hosting the night was Channel 12/Fox News Anchorwoman Suzanne Boyd. The event featured several hand-painted ceramic bowls on sale. The bowls were part of a national fundraiser where decorated, empty bowls serve as a reminder of the many people in the world that go without meals. During the event, guests got a closer look at homelessness in Palm Beach County when they met “Faces of Homelessness Story Tellers,” formerly homeless people who shared their experiences of living on the streets. They also serve as spokespeople at colleges, youth groups, public schools and other community events throughout the county. The event also featured a screening of the documentary “Never Give Up,” which focuses on the homeless in Palm Beach County. The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, Inc. provides leadership in addressing, advocating and improving the lives of homeless people in the county.
