Commissioner Santamaria attended the county’s Water Utilities Department open house celebration on March 6. The event officially dedicated the new Lake Region Water Treatment Plant.
The facility uses a reverse-osmosis process that treats brackish water from the Floridan Aquifer to the highest quality standards. The water treatment plant serves approximately 25,000 residents in Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay without reliance on surface water from Lake Okeechobee.
Total plant capacity is 10 million gallons per day. The facility has been designed to allow for a future capacity of up to 20 million gallons per day. The Lake Region Water Treatment Plant is located at 39700 Hooker Highway, Belle Glade.
