On May 6, Commissioner Karen Marcus and Commissioner Jeff Koons hosted the unveiling of the new public-use facilities that are now open at the Limestone Creek Natural Area in Jupiter.
A group of about 25 residents, many from the Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative, joined the commissioners as they explored the 53-acre natural area located at 6570 Church Street in Jupiter that includes a nature trail, hiking trail and fishing pier. Environmental Resources Management maintains the area and organized a massive cleanup effort to restore the site.
Before the 30-minute tour, Marcus and Koons shared a few comments about the significance of the 1,500-foot natural trail nestled among pine flatwoods and slash pines.
“We have envisioned this property for a long time,” Marcus said. “This is a place for the community to enjoy.”
Koons said Limestone Creek offers residents a chance to “get in touch with nature.” He also thanked members from the Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative for their assistance in preserving the site.
