Commissioner Jess Santamaria welcomed approximately 75 Glades-area residents and civic leaders to his second Glades Community Forum at the Dolly Hand Cultural Center on June 25.

Discussion topics centered on hurricane preparedness, Community Emergency Rescue Team (CERT) volunteers, budget cuts and the need for the Glades communities to work together, the new Lake Region Water Treatment Plant, planned upgrades to the Belle Glade Fire-Rescue station and proposed replacement of stations in Pahokee and South Bay, the proposed inland port, and stabilizing the local economy in the wake of U.S. Sugar’s announced sale to the state.
