The county’s Parks and Recreation and Water Utilities departments are pleased to announce that Green Cay Wetlands and Nature Center was recently awarded a 2009 Kids Crown Award from South Florida Parenting magazine. The awards were announced in the July issue.
Each year, readers vote for family-friendly places that they think offer the best activities, products and services in South Florida. The reader panelists and judges are all frequent readers of South Florida Parenting and full-time residents of South Florida. Green Cay earned recognition in the category of “Best Place to See and Learn about Wildlife.”
The award’s description was as follows: “Age-specific programs give children and families the opportunity to explore various aspects of nature and wildlife. Storytime and crafts for 3 to 5 year-olds involve hands-on activities, while junior naturalist programs for 9 to 14 year-olds give kids increased exposure and understanding of nature-related topics. Inside, gators, a turtle tank and frog exhibits educate visitors about the wildlife they might see outside. Monthly night hikes allow families to see and hear the creatures of the night in their environment, a completely different experience than daytime interaction. The boardwalk provides an isolated, serene feeling and setting for families to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”
Green Cay Wetlands and Nature Center is located at 12800 Hagen Ranch Road, Boynton Beach. For more information, call 561-966-7000 or visit www.pbcgov.com/parks/nature/green_cay_nature_center.
