Palm Beach County Property Appraiser’s Office Announces 2017 Scholarship Award Winners

All the money raised for the scholarship awards comes directly from PAO employee donations

West Palm Beach, Fla. – The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser’s Office (PAO) held their annual College Scholarship Awards ceremony today, Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks, CFA, AAS, handed out five college scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to the following high school seniors:

Angelica Abrego, a resident of Wellington and graduate of Wellington Community High School, will be attending the University of Florida in the fall.
Alana Gomez, a resident of West Palm Beach and graduate of the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, will be attending the University of Florida in the fall.
Jamesha Kendall, a resident of Palm Beach Gardens and graduate of Inlet Grove Community High School, will be attending the University of Central Florida in the fall.
Rowan Pelfrey, a resident of West Palm Beach and graduate of Seminole Ridge Community High School, will be attending the University of West Florida (at Pensacola) in the fall.
Brendan Shipley, a resident of West Palm Beach and graduate of Berean Christian School, will be attending the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Indiana) in the fall.

“The recipients selected are impressive academic scholars,” said Property Appraiser Jacks. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them the best on their path toward success.”

Since 1994, the PAO has awarded $120,000 in college scholarships. The event is special to the PAO, because the money raised for the scholarships is 100% funded by the employees who participate in, “Friday Dress Casual Day”, a volunteer donation program.

“Our employees are committed to this important program, said Property Appraiser Jacks. I especially want to thank the committee members for their hard work and dedication to the selection process.”

The committee reviewed dozens of applications - all from exceptional high school seniors throughout Palm Beach County. The five chosen finalists stood out among the pool of applicants. They are going on to pursue careers in medicine, journalism, social work, theatre, and engineering.
