BABES in the WOODS

Take a guided walk on the trails with your little ones in strollers. We combine exercise and education all rolled up in one. There is nothing like a brisk walk in the park and also learn about the local plants and animals. At the end of each outing you will meet a special friend; such as a turtle, rabbit or butterfly. Learn what is dangerous or not and how to help instill a connection to the earth in your young children.
Comfortable shoes, bug spray, sunscreen and water are recommended.
BIRDING at RIVERBEND PARK (for adults 18 years and older)

Local Naturalist Karen Lindquist takes participants on a guided tour of Riverbend Park. Karen knows where local endangered birds such as sandhill cranes and limpkin can be found, then off to find the fall migratory birds like warblers. Do not forget to look around for the wild turkey. They can all be found at Riverbend Park. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair from Karen.

CANOE/KAYAK ADVENTURE

Park Coordinator, Sue Congelosi will lead a guided tour of the waterways that meander through Riverbend Park on Saturday, August 8, 2009. The guide will describe the local flora and fauna of this unique wetland environment. Riverbend Park plays an important role in the Loxahatchee River watershed. Learn more about the history and ecology of the park during this two-hour paddle.Wear comfortable clothes/shoes that can get wet, sunscreen, bug spray and bottled water are recommended.
Reservations are required. Bring your own canoe or kayak, or rent one from Canoe Outfitters, (561) 746-7053.
FULL MOON BIKE RIDE

COST: $5 per bicyclist
See Riverbend Park under the light of the full moon. This bicycle adventure is fun for the whole family. This leisurely guided ride will take participants through the majority of Riverbend Park trails. We will stop for water breaks and questions/discussion along the way.
Participants are required to wear official bicycle safety gear and lights on their bicycles. Experienced riders only. Inexperienced youth should ride on official safety seats/equipment attached to their parents bicycles. Bicycles available for rent from Canoe Outfitters, 561/746-7053.

Local historian and author will lead a tour of the battlefield and discuss how the Seminoles were driven from the Everglades during the Seminole Wars and how they were able to overcome the odds and build the Seminole Nation.

MOONY MADNESS

Take the family on a night hike through Riverbend Park. Naturalist Karen Lindquist will guide the group under the light of the moon. She will tell tales about the moon, learn what is myth and what is true. The hike will end at a campfire where participants will roast marshmallows and make s'mores.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY (for adults 18 years and older)

Learn the tricks to get great nature photographs from professional Nature photographer Karen Lindquist. Karen will host a Nature Photography program at one of the most scenic parks in Palm Beach County Riverbend Park. There will be opportunities to photograph wildlife such as deer and turkey.
Comfortable shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, water and your own camera (digital or film) are recommended. Reservations are recommended.
NATURE SCIENCE INVESTIGATORS (for youth ages 7-11 years)

DATES: October 18, November 1 and 15
TIME:
1:30-3:00 pm
COST: $5 per participant
Become a N.S.I. agent and explore nature in a hands-on way. Each program investigates a different topic such as bugs, trees, animal signs, reptiles and birds. Participants will be using tools scientists use like dip nets, binoculars and insect nets.

SAWMILL SATURDAYS
Third Saturday of every month, starting September 19

- Old-Fashioned Sawmill Demonstration
Volunteer Sawyers will operate the historic 1930 Sawmill at the Riverbend Farmstead.
The usually quiet Riverbend Park will awaken to the whir of engines and buzz of saws on the third Saturday of each month. Open to the public this FREE program will demonstrate how early Florida settlers cut their own lumber to build their homes and barns.
Park in the main parking area and follow the signs to the Farmstead, about a 1/2-mile walk or bike ride.
