BUDDING AUTHORS & ARTISTS  DEBRA YOUNG

Description:                  
Budding authors and artists will be inspired to delve into the book publishing world through creative writing and book illustrating activities. To begin the writing and illustrating process, students choose from a variety of templates including: picture books, fantasy books, teen stories, poetry books, and activity or information books. They will make their unique book by first deciding if they would like to be an author or an illustrator of a book. They get the choice of working with a partner and can even decide what type of book they want to create! Students discover the process of creating a book from beginning to end and will learn how they can have their own unique books published!

Description:                  
Students will become authors, photographers and illustrators in this creative module! They are introduced to the art of photography and learn how photography is used to illustrate books. Students will determine the type of book they want to create and the type of photography that is appropriate for that type of genre. They take their own photographs and then incorporate their unique photos into the design of their books. Students choose from a variety of book templates including: picture books, fantasy books, teen stories, poetry books, and activity or information books.

Students will create their own Crazy Comics! They will have a blast designing and creating their own comic strips. Students can choose from a variety of themes including: Music Madness, Teen Talk, Modern Marvels, Space Race, Fab Five, and Blank Slate. When they are all done with their unique creation they will have their own cool comics to show off to friends and family!

Description:                  
This six session module will allow participants to explore their creativity in clay. Students will learn various building, sculpting, modeling, and texturing techniques, as well as the unlimited glazing possibilities available. They will have fun as they create a variety of functional and decorative pieces! Clay art will be taken to studio for kiln firing.

KIDS CLAY WORKSHOP EARTHARTISTS

Description:                  
This module explores multiple clay working and glazing techniques to learn how to build and paint handmade pottery. Students will use white pottery clay and 100% nontoxic, food-safe glazes. Artist will transport pottery back to her studio for kiln firing. Students will create a variety of functional and decorative clay projects. Examples are: pinch pot with a lid, hanging chimes, wall pocket, masks, clay heart boxes, mini sculptures, vases, etc. Workspace needed must include tables, chairs, access to water for clean up and storage for supplies and “works in progress.”

Description:                  
The “Not Picasso” module is art for the artistically challenged. We hope to inspire and motivate all children to create a masterpiece! With predesigned projects, an artistic “jump start” is given to those who need a little artistic help. But don’t think for a minute that these kits are for young children. All projects are based on themes of interest to the older child or adult. Each project requires an intermediate to advanced skill level.

  • Sun Catchers
    Develop an ability to choose and use color to gain the advantage in capturing sunlight effectively.

  • Foil Art
    Develop an ability to master different strokes created with one scrapper tool on a back drop of metallic colored boards, including copper, gold, and/or silver foil.

SWAMP CRITTERS & FRIENDS DEBRA YOUNG

Description:                  
Bring the pages of a book to life by creating life-sized cardboard swamp critters and their friends! Design, paint and accessorize characters to create a new best friend who will go home with you. Glitter, ribbons, makeup, dread locks, and real clothes are just a few of the ways to individualize your storybook people and animals. Begin the design process inside the pages of a most unusual book…an oversized two feet by three feet color-along book, where you select your favorite character and create your model. How tall? How short? How pretty or scary? You decide!
