Birdhouses, butterfly gardens, and natural areas are some of the visible signs of designed wildlife habitats you will see throughout our golf courses. These wildlife and habitat management areas are intended to attract and preserve wildlife. You may pick up an Audubon 2007 Watchlist at any of Palm Beach County-operated golf courses to monitor birds and help to protect their habitats.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) is an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.  The ACSP helps golf courses and their golfers enhance the valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that golf courses provide, improve efficiency, minimize potentially harmful impacts of golf operations, and serves as vital resource for golf courses.

By implementing and documenting a full complement of environmental management practices, a course earns designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Some areas addressed by the ASCP are:

  • Environmental planning
  • Wildlife and habitat management
  • Chemical use, reduction, and safety
  • Water conservation
  • Water quality management
  • Outreach and education

Receiving certification demonstrates leadership as a steward of the environment and publicly recognizes and rewards environmental achievements.

Palm Beach County Golf is proud to participate in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses (ACSP), and is committed to environmental stewardship.

The ACSP, administered by Audubon International, helps landowners preserve and enhance the environmental quality of their properties. Audubon International is the only program in the world that provides an Environmental Seal of Accomplishment for golf courses.

Certified Audubon Properties contribute to the conservation of resources and the protection of native plants and wildlife.

Golf courses provide significant open space and opportunities to provide wildlife habitats. The ASCP’s goal is to encourage golf courses to be environmental stewards and to certify golf courses that meet or exceed stringent ASCP environmental requirements.

Okeeheelee, Park Ridge and Southwinds golf courses have been certified. In addition to being great courses to play, these courses, through careful management, protect our drinking water, improve the water quality of our lakes, and support a variety of plants and wildlife.
