Water Treatment Plant #11 is located in Belle Glade and provides drinking water to the cities of Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay. This-state-of-the-art plant went into service in March 2008. Using a reverse osmosis system it desalinates and purifies water from seven wells reaching approximately 1300 feet below ground into the Floridan Aquifer. This well water is pumped through the reverse osmosis elements under extremely high pressure. The water is further treated by degasification, disinfection, and fluoridated. The result is excellent quality drinking water. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week producing up to 10 MGD (million gallons a day) and has a 3 Million Gallon Storage Tank on site. The plant was engineered and constructed for rapid expansion to 20 MGD.
